Born London, 1980.

Alex Rooney studied drawing in Italy where he was exposed to a rigorous method of instruction. He went on to study Modern History at Queen’s College, Oxford. During that time, he maintained a studio where he taught himself to paint. On returning to London, he built a studio in the South West of the city in which he now devotes his time to portraits and larger figurative pieces.

Alongside numerous portrait commissions, he has painted widely in France, Spain and America. He has also exhibited in various group shows, including The Columbia Threadneedle Prize, The Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition, The Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize and The Discerning Eye Prize, Mall Galleries, London. He won the 2009 Gordon Hulson Memorial Prize, RBA, Mall Galleries.
